Benefits of self-consumption

Solar self-consumption is an increasingly popular option for supplying solar energy to our homes. Thanks to the advancement of solar technologies and its pull, it is becoming a more competitive and efficient option and will continue to be so in the future.

Since we first heard the word “self-consumption” in our country, it has been a long time and every day we become more respectful with the environment and this makes us more interested in using the natural resources we have to meet our basic needs.

Today we have solar energy as one of the best known natural resources, it is increasingly common to find solar panels installed in homes and there are many advantages that we have if we opt for solar energy as a source of energy in our home.


Mainly when we are interested in self-consumption we are looking for savings on the electricity bill. But this is not the only benefit we can get, one of the advantages is that it does not pollute the environment but you collaborate directly with the environment and protect it from the expulsion of gases as solar panels are capable of transforming solar energy into electrical energy for later consumption, here are some of the main benefits of self-consumption:

In addition to having subsidies from the autonomous communities, they help to promote self-consumption and assume a large part of the cost of the installation. Every day more and more progress is being made in the management and materials used to build solar panels. One of the biggest drawbacks is the construction time of efficient housing as it tends to be in some cases somewhat higher and the installation has a high initial cost, however by having bonuses from the state these costs are reduced significantly.


Installing solar panels on your home is not a complex procedure. However, there are some guidelines before proceeding with the installation. First of all a specialist has to carry out a feasibility study in the house where you want to install the solar panels:

  • Capacity and usage measurement
  • Budget elaboration according to required plates
  • Processing of permits and subsidies
  • Installation of solar panels

A factor to take into account is the electrical power that we have in the house because solar panels do not have enough power to supply a house with its normal use.

There are three types of solar panel installations: photovoltaic, thermal and hybrid solar panels that combine photovoltaic and thermal panels. Photovoltaic panels are those that convert solar energy into electricity, thermal panels are those that convert solar energy into thermal energy (heat) and finally hybrid solar panels that simultaneously convert solar energy into electricity and heat.


Certainly installing solar panels in our homes will allow us to be more respectful of our ecosystem and we can thus contribute to being a better planet through the natural resources we have.
