Because of the high price of electricity in our country, more and more people have made the move to the installation of solar power systems, since the energy obtained from these facilities is not only free, but also non-polluting.

Another matter that is being given great importance today is energy efficiency. One of the ways to combine efficiency and solar power is by home automation.

Currently, rarely is there a case where no Internet connection is available in a home or where a person does not have a smartphone with a monthly data fee. That is why we now carry out most of our processes through the Internet, which has also been linked to solar power.

Home automation in solar power facilities

Within home automation applications in a solar power system, it is possible to control aspects such as the adaptation of energy production to the consumption needs according to the time of day, thus optimizing the system’s operation and avoiding the need to input power back into the grid. 

In addition, with these systems we can control our entire facilities throughout the day by using just one application at any time of day.

One of the aspects that can be controlled by this type of system is what is done with the energy produced. In other words, we can choose to input the energy into the system or save it in storage batteries, for times when there is no solar radiation.

Likewise, thanks to this type of system, we will be able to know the condition of our facilities, if any failure occurs or when we must do maintenance to extend the service life.

It is true that, in a solar self-consumption system, efficiency is not so important (since we will generate all the energy we need; although with these systems, less energy is needed), thus our facility can be smaller in size, which results in savings on installation as well.

Smart solar panels

Within home automation applied to solar power facilities, smart solar panels stand out above the other components.

Within the field of solar panels, we find solar thermal and photovoltaic panels, each of which generates a specific type of energy. In both types, smart solutions make it possible to monitor and regulate, for a specific moment, the thermal and/or electrical generation of a solar power facility in relation to user demand and preferences.

Smart solar panels adapt their operation to a series of data that can be received from three different sources:

  • Facilities: Within the solar thermal panels, the panel itself can report on certain aspects, such as fluid temperature. As for photovoltaic panels, we can obtain specific information, such as production power. With this information, the system will adapt its operation to achieve the greatest efficiency. In addition, smart solar panels are able to detect faults in the system itself, thus preventing them from becoming major problems.
  • User: Users of the facilities can also input information into the system using remote control applications.
  • Internet: By being connected to the Internet, the system extracts information on outdoor aspects, such as weather forecast, daytime sunlight hours, temperature, among others.
