More than 93GW of Solar Energy are expected in Europe
IGNACIO BLANCO CUESTA | CEO UNIVERGY INTERNATIONAL
Univergy International and Green Investment Group (Macquarie Group) have recently established Nara Solar, a company that will focus its activities in the European market, which will offer important oportunities to develop photovoltaic energy
1. What kinds of projects does your company carry out in the EPC business or plants promotion concerning photovoltaic energy both in Spain and abroad?
The team specialized in EPCM projects of Univergy International is currently running photovoltaic solar plants ib nore than four countries, which are: Japan, Vietnam, the Netherlands and Togo. The activity of the company mainly focuses on photovoltaic solar plants, but it is also developed in roofing systems (commercial and industrial self-comsumption), floating PV systems, solar pumping (agriculture and livestock sectors) and hybrid PV systems (residential and industrial self-consumption).
2. Do you think that all photovoltaic projects awarded at auctions in our country will be completed at the end of the year?
We consider that the key for the development of EPC projects in our country will consist of introducing new commercial approaches into the market, just as Univergy International has recently done, which consists of tools designed to operate on time that allows to show “in situ” (at client’s home) through a ‘tablet’, the study, sizing and calculation of funding (consumer loan) for residential facilities up to 15 kWp.
3. What are the keys for the Spanish EPC sector to be international leader in renewable energies?
The important thing for Spanish companies will be their implementation in international markets. Univergy has been extensively deployed in Asia Pacific and Latin America for more than five years, where it concetrates most of its business portfolio, which allows us to improve the introduction into the EPC business and have our own teams from Univergy KK in Japan.
4. How do you think both the EPC and photovoltaic plants promotion business will evolve in 2020, once the plants from the auction are finished? What business prospects does your company expect?
Univergy International and Green Investment Group (Macquarie Group) have recently established Nara Solar, a company that will focus its activities in the European market, which will offer important oportunities for the development of the photovoltaic energy, because it is expected a new facility of more than 93 GW of solar energy new capacity throughout Europe between 2018 and 2022, with more than 8 GW in Spain, which represents an annual growth rate in Spain of 21%. The solar energy is one of the cheapest renewable energy in Europe and the first solar projects backed by PPA without subsidies were launched in Spain in 2018.
